St. Paul Education At-Home Learning Code Of Conduct

October 16, 2020

All St. Paul Education students enrolled in at-home learning are subject to the following At-Home Learning Code of Conduct and all applicable Division policies.

Please note, learning expectations, time commitments and student assessment will be aligned with expectations for regular in-school instruction as much as possible. Teachers will be taking attendance daily.

Student Responsibilities

At-home learning should occur in a responsible, safe, efficient, ethical, and legal manner.

The following reminders and guidelines for at-home learning are for the protection of all staff members, students, and their families:

  • Always be respectful and courteous to other students and teachers.

  • Always use a device in a way that shows consideration and respect. Refrain from any involvement in inappropriate, offensive, obscene, pornographic, discriminatory, threatening comments or images, misrepresentation of identity, and/or other disruptive behavior.

  • Refrain from sending or posting messages that defame or slander other individuals.

  • We take integrity and authenticity of student work very seriously. Copying, knowingly allowing others to copy from you, and/or misusing internet content is not permitted. We expect every student’s work will be their own work.

  • Online correspondence is not private. Refrain from saying, writing or recording anything of which you would not want to have a permanent record.

  • Do not video record, audio record, photograph, live stream, or transmit in any other way any part of the at-home learning sessions. This includes not posting on any social media platform.

  • Protect your passwords. Keep them secret from anyone except your parents.

  • Dress appropriately for class. (For example, you should not be dressed in clothes that are revealing or contain inappropriate sayings.)

  • Whenever possible, turn on your cameras while synchronous (live) instruction is taking place. If/when this is not possible, a self-photo, or “selfie,” should be used. You should use an appropriate profile picture or video feed background. If you use inappropriate photos or backgrounds, you will be asked to change or remove them.

  • During synchronous instruction, you are encouraged to find a quiet space free of distractions. Items that reveal personal information should be moved out of camera range.

Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

With expanded access to electronic information, availability of inappropriate material is not uncommon. Some sites contain illegal, defamatory, inaccurate, or offensive information. We especially appreciate partnering with parents for the responsible use of internet resources in at-home learning programs.

To maintain a positive, productive learning environment and assure confidentiality for students and teachers during distance learning, all parents/guardians are asked to follow the following guidelines.

  • At-home learning sessions are designed for students. To prevent disruptions to the learning environment, parents/guardians should not actively participate in learning sessions, although parents/guardians may assist their child with technology and/or remain nearby.

  • Do not video record, audio record, photograph, live stream, or transmit in any other way any part of the at-home learning sessions. This includes not posting on any social media platform.

  • During synchronous instruction, students are encouraged to find a quiet space free of distractions.

  • Items that reveal personal information should be moved out of camera range

  • Any confidential or personally identifiable information related to students participating during at-home learning sessions should not be collected, discussed or shared.

  • Parents/guardians should not engage with students during at-home learning sessions. If you need to speak with your child during a check-in session, first mute your child’s microphone.

  • If a parent/guardian has a question, please email your child’s teacher or call the school.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in ensuring that at-home learning is a positive, productive and enjoyable experience for all participants.
