Horticulture

We had a busy week in our horticulture class! We received and assembled our tower garden, confirmed our plans for our garden/greenhouse and even planted some more seeds. The tower garden stands at over six feet tall and can hold 28 plants. Inside of the tower is a watering system that periodically waters the plants and because there is no dirt involved with the tower garden, students got to learn about the ph needed for plants to grow. We discussed things like fertilizer and how it helped plants grow. Things like nitrogen and potassium had to be added to the water in place of having dirt. Meanwhile, outside of the classroom we have been sketching the plans for our outdoor classroom! We will have a greenhouse, gazebo, raised flower beds and even picnic tables outside for this and other classes to use. Students had to take into consideration things like where the sun will be most often during the day to ensure the best results from our outdoor growing space. We'd like to send a big thank you to the town of Myrnam for moving the greenhouse and gazebo in to place for us. The students can't wait to get outside and start planting and with your help we'll be able to start planting as soon as the weather allows!
