Graduation
Saturday, May 25 was the date of the New Myrnam School graduation. For MacKenzie Evans, Willy Wiebe, Daralea Rahn, and Brandon Grant-Petley, this night was a celebration of their hard work through 12 years of schooling. This was an especially exciting celebration for the school, as we saw the first graduate of the Myrnam Outreach and Homeschool program. Jake Boese has completed the required courses and credits to receive his high school diploma a year earlier than other students his age.
The evening started with a toast to the parents from Brandon and response from Mrs. D'Arcy Evans on behalf of the parents. Then Trey Hardcastle and Chyanne Fisher gave a lovely speech congratulating the grads on their accomplishments and thanking them for being leaders in the school. Daralea responded on behalf of the grads, and then supper was served. Supper was at the Elk's Hall provided by Shirley's Catering. It was a delicious meal!
With bellies full, all the guests and more headed into the school for the formal graduation ceremony. Beginning with the grand march, and continuing with speeches from Mrs. Owen, Mrs. Tymofichuk, Ms. Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, MLA for Vegreville-Fort Saskatchewan, and Mr. Ruven Rajoo on behalf of the school board, there were memories and advice shared with a few tears shed. MacKenzie gave the valedictorian address highlighting how influential her teachers and classmates have been to her in her short time at Myrnam.
The evening was a huge success. Thank you to the grads who worked tirelessly to decorate and set up chairs, the parents for raising such a diverse group of graduates, and the NMS staff for all of your efforts and planning to make the graduation possible.
