Alberta School Boards Association Requests Information on K-6 Draft Curriculum

October 6, 2021

The Government of Alberta released a draft K-6 curriculum last spring. St. Paul Education is not piloting the draft curriculum this year. The Department of Education has mandated that the draft curriculum be implemented in September of 2022 in all subject areas for all K-6 students across the province. This curriculum is intended to bring a renewed focus to literacy, numeracy, citizenship and practical skills. The groundwork for the new curriculum began with a new ministerial order on student learning. This was followed by the development of a Guiding Framework for Curriculum Design and Development. During this last phase the government is collecting feedback from all stakeholders to help with refinements before the draft K-6 curriculum is implemented across the province. The Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) is hosting conversations with Board chairs to get feedback on the scope of the draft curriculum and its implementation. ASBA will share the feedback received with the Government of Alberta. Please take a few moments to give your thoughts on the new curriculum and its implementation so that your feedback can be shared in these conversations. All responses are anonymous. This survey will remain open until November 11, 2021. ASBA SURVEY LINK:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc0NmMC_axqY82E91CDQm0N1w-GDa5efZLH_dan DjmOeraGvQ/viewform?usp=sf_link
